Quakertown Squirrel Situation: Hi David, What a terrific site! As you can imagine, I have a squirrel problem. I thought I had trapped "the one" getting in a few months ago, then I thought I'd sealed the hole where she was entering after I checked for babies and removed the nest. I took her 25 miles away and had my husband release her. I doubt she'll be back since she'd have to cross several large, busy roads and a 10 lane interstate. Well, here we are a few months later, and I heard squirrels up there again. I set the trap near my birdfeeders figuring if I caught & relocated all the local perpetrators, I could at least be comfortable that I'd gotten all the ones that "know" about the hole. I trapped a nursing female. When I saw her condition, I had to think about whether I was going to relocate her. I was fed up with the invasion, but having several nests out in our wooded yard, I turned her loose. I didn't want any babies to starve. Come to find out, we have squirrels in the attic again AND a nest of young. So far, it looks like just one "baby". I was startled to find today it's nearly an adult youngster though, and the adult female won't get near my Havahart trap anymore. She eats whatever food she finds around it, and ignores my delicious Jif PB sandwiches inside. I called the folks you recommend in the Quakertown PA area for removal, and WildTech says it'll cost $389-$489 for removal (not including fixing the hole(s)). That was a bit of sticker shock for me. However, is this a reasonable cost for this kind of work? They will come out today to assess the situation, but is there anything I can do to help lower the cost? Self-monitoring of the trap(s)?
