Atlanta Squirrel Situation: David, I've read all that I can find about getting rid of squirrels in the attic and we have tried just about all of it. Several years ago- probably at least 5 years now, I saw two flying squirrels in our attic. We have spent several thousands of dollars with professional critter ridders including a pest control companies in Atlanta. Our carpenters gap has been sealed around the house with heavy metal. Any gaps in the crawl space have been closed or wired over. Traps have included sticky pads, Havahart wire cages, mouse and rat traps, even a good-old-boy wooden trap- a rabbit gum trap that our neighbor used very successfully to catch his flying squirrels, etc. - our's must be smarter because we haven't caught anything. One "professional" critter control company, that came highly recommended and cost the most, even fumigated the attic to run them out then claimed to have sealed everything - yeah right. They also did some damage to the house and roof. We were assured by the companies, as each of the guaranteed time periods ran out, that we no longer had anything in the attic. The roof has been checked at night with the attic lights on so that openings could be seen. Just last week we had a highly qualified roofer go through the attic and the outside of the house to see if any holes can be detected. He found two holes behind the gutter and closed them. Just today, I still heard a sound in the same spot as always...there are several spots related to tracks where the insulation is patted down. We hear the sounds - not a scratching - but a "plunk". The sounds occur primarily in the afternoon and early evening. We live in an area with lots of trees but we have had limbs and trees removed that were close to the house. I want to have additional insulation added to the attic but can't do this until I get rid of whatever is occupying the space. Any suggestions? Thanks from Atlanta GA

Hey David, I really appreciate your web site i used it recently to figure out what to do with squirrels that were entering my roof line. its not my attic but rather small roof above my picture window. (3' x 8'). I hired your recommended guys from your directory in my area. He set traps and as he was setting traps and the exclusion cone on the entrance( under soffit above gutter on the corner) a squirrel jumped on the roof and tried to fight to get into the hole. he shooed him away where the squirrell got trapped and removed that night. next morning another squirrel got trapped as i heard the trap snap. but now on day 2 i saw a baby squirrell or very young one trying to get out only to turn back down the exclusion tube and never fully jumped out. i think the problem is i live on second floor and the tree that gave them the original access is just out of reach to jump out and never come back in. now i know there is at least two babies up there i wondering if they will ever jump out or will they chew through the ceiling and land in my living room, or do they chew another way out. I'm terrified they are going to chew down to me or never get out. Thanks for any advice on this dilemma -Mike
