Boston Squirrel Situation: Hello: I live in Cambridge, Boston area. I have a huge hill that is mine behind my house. The neighbor has been feeding the squirrels big bags of peanuts several times a week. When I bought the home one yr ago, the holes from the squirrels were on his side. Now he causing a severe increase in population So my hill now looks compromised bec, the weeds get moved out to have tunnels and holes, courtesy of the squirrels. I have my weeds abated in accordance but some roots are good to keep the hill from sliding into my house. I notice now the squirrels are coming into my yard and coming over the retaining wall and wanting to come in for water. Two have gotten into the house and my dogs attacked and killed them Before I could stop it. I am freaked out by this. They may have worms, or rabies and make me and my dogs sick. I have not talked to the neighbors because they don't seem to speak English. And the guy feeding the squirrels comes to stay with the nurse who is the live in help. It is her husband. They are all very nice people, and I don't want to make our situation strained in anyway, we are alone in that area of the block. We have no neighbors on either side. Can you help me and tell me what I can do? I love my dogs and keep them very nice and healthy. I am so afraid now that the squirrels are coming inside the doggy door. Thanks.

Hi, I was so glad to see your site as I've been perusing may DIY sites and I was so confused on the best approach. What is a reasonable cost to have someone come to assist in ridding of squirrel (s)? I should know first, if squirrels breed in the fall. If not then I may only have one squirrel? If that is the case, I feel I could handle trapping it myself, but if there is a potential for a family in there, I don't have that confidence. Do you know of a reputable service on Cape Cod, Massachusetts? I've noticed noise in my wall and thought I was hearing things, but am pretty convinced now that the stain that has appeared on my newly painted ceiling is probably from urine. I'm not sure how they've entered the house, but looking at the roofline, I saw a spot where a shingle is loosened and appears to be stuffed with fur? Or could have sneaked in through the gable vent (It used to be covered with wire mesh, but may be compromised. Thanks for posting all the useful information and for any advice you can provide. Barbara
